John has created or co-created many successful companies - Syzygy went public in Germany; Overture went public in the USA; Obongo and Seattle Coffee Company were acquired by US public companies AOL Time Warner and Starbucks, respectively; First Tuesday was acquired privately by Yazam; and Amanyara, a resort in the Caribbean, and Oriel, a global wine brand, are still privately owned. John was also a founding investor in many other successful ventures including Betfair and Carluccio's.
His latest venture, Archimedia, focuses 'creative capital' on significant or controlling stakes in companies which it can help to grow including Geckoboard, Graze, Moncler, Made, Pollen, Qinec, Virgin Mobile, Wally and many other innovative companies.
John is an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He supports numerous charities in arts and education including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Irish Arts Centre, SFMoma and Slide Ranch in the US, and ArtAngel and ExpertImpact in Europe. John earned a degree in Economics at London University before starting his career working for Procter & Gamble (in the UK and Europe) then Kraft Jacobs Suchard In the Middle East & Africa).
